Ignacio Ramonet warned in Cuba about right-wing extremist strategies
The renowned Spanish writer, professor, and journalist based in France, Ignacio Ramonet, warned Wednesday that the extreme right in the world wants to snatch from the left the epic of insurrection.
During a meeting with students and professors of the Higher Institute of International Relations (ISRI), in Havana, Ramonet explained that proof of this was the assault on the U.S. Capitol, an unprecedented event in the history of the North American country and that he analyzes in depth in his book "The Age of Conspiracy Building".
"The assault was an inaugural event because the Congress had never been attacked before and at an international level for the first time the extreme right-wing en masse assaulted the seat of democracy", he pointed out.
The book shows that these actions were a conspiracy to overthrow the U.S. democratic system and for Donald Trump to remain in power with a new status," that of a president kept in power by his electoral supporters", Ramonet said.
He explained that since he learned about the events at the Capitol, he had doubts about the motivations of the demonstrators, how the action was fabricated from the intellectual and militant point of view, which could transform thousands of peaceful citizens into soldiers participating in a coup d'état; "that is the project that the text tries to deconstruct," he added.
He commented that the title of the work, "The Age of Conspiracy-Mongering. Trump, the cult of lies and the assault on the Capitol" is because what happened in the Congress building will not be an isolated event, as the attempted coup in Brazil last January showed but will serve as a model for the use of the extreme right to overthrow democracy.
Ramonet presented his book at Casa de las Americas, in the context of the 31st Havana International Book Fair
