Italy hosts meeting of Cubans against US blockade

The National Committee of Associations of Cuban Residents in Italy (CONACI) highlighted on Saturday the significance of the first virtual meeting of Cuban residents in Europe against the US blockade.

In statements to Prensa Latina, CONACI Secretary Luis Eduardo Alcina noted the importance of the event to promote the fight against the isolation policy followed by successive US governments regarding Cuba and any interference in the internal affairs of the Caribbean nation.

The First Meeting of Cuban Residents in Europe against the Blockade is being held on Saturday with the participation of more than 180 delegates, including 19 members of Italy-based associations. They will also discuss other issues such as culture, national identity and the use of social media.

Siboney Association Ada Galano will speak from Milan on behalf of CONACI. She will address the work done by Cuban health collaborators in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic in the northern regions of Lombardy and Piedmont, at the time of the highest incidence of the epidemic.

Galano told Prensa Latina that she will report on CONACI's work, present her experiences on the mission accomplished by doctors and nurses, as well as the support by the associations of Cuban residents in Italy to the nomination of the Henry Reeve Medical Contingent for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
