Cuban Combatants' Contribution to Angolan Liberation Highlithed
The celebration in Angola of the 56th anniversary of the landing of the Granma Yacht and FAR's Day was an opportunity to remember Cuba's contribution to the struggle for Angola''s independence, Army General Francisco Furtado said in this capital.
The landing, a historic event that occurred on December 2, 1956, marked the foundation of the Rebel Army and later of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) of Cuba, his faithful follower.
In remarks to Prensa Latina, following an event to commemorate that national day, organized by the Cuban Embassy in Angola, the Angolan army officer stated that the FAR summarizes the rich history of Cuba's struggle for liberation.
He stressed that Angola is now a stable nation, which is reconstructed and developed thanks the Cuban army that participated in the Angolan war and whose best fighters shed their blood.
One of the legacies of Cuba's FAR for Angola is that the military institution "taught us the tradition and art of war" to preserve our independence, achieved at a high price.
He also condemned the 50-year-old economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the U.S. government on Cuba, despite the repeated condemnation by the international community of that criminal and anachronistic mechanism.
