Cuban Contribution to Education in Angola Highlighted

Angola applies the effective Cuban teaching method "Yo, Si Puedo" (Yes I Can) to contribute to eradicating illiteracy in the country, an educational authority said in this capital on Saturday.

The secretary of State for Higher Education, Antonio Miguel Andre, said at a lecture on access to universities that the Cuban experience is successfully applied in several provinces.

The fight against illiteracy is a national imperative and one of the priorities in the field of education, Minister of Education Pinda Simao said.

After considering that literacy rates in Angola are still a problem, especially in rural areas, the minister stated that literacy is a powerful tool to eradicate poverty.

Angola hosts meetings on education and promotes people's interest in reading, as part of activities on the International Literacy Day to be held on Sunday.
